12 Amazing Facts about The Witcher Series
Hello and Welcome to the Random Factbook. I'm Nebula and I am your informant for today. The Witcher is a novel based game with the same name by the Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The Witcher takes place in a medieval fantasy world and follows the story of Geralt, one of a few remaining Witchers – traveling monster hunters for hire who have supernatural powers. If you like Witcher here are some facts you may didn't know.
1. CD Projekt Hired A Professional Master Swordsman For Geralt's Movements.
There's been much said about Geralt's constantly pirouetting style of movement when in combat - something that was actually motion-captured by master swordsman Maciej Kwiatkowski before release.
2. The Author Entered The Story In A Competition... And Came Third
That's right, Andrzej Sapkowski did a Charlie Chaplin (who once entered his own lookalike contest and lost), as he wrote the original Witcher tale as a short story intended only for a magazine competition in 1986 - only to come third.
3. Witcher 2 Had To Have Controversial Nude Material Cut
Not something the developers thought would be an issue before release, when it came time to get Witcher 2 past the ratings board in Australia, they declined, citing the idea of "sex as a reward" during one of the side-quests as something that didn't belong in an MA15+ classification.
4. Author Andrzej Sapkowski Has Nothing To Do With The Games
Not in a malicious way, but author Sapkowski isn't someone interested in video games as a medium whatsoever.
Instead, CD Projekt purchased the rights from him directly when they conceived the idea of a game, and went on to turn the series into one of the finest RPGs of all time.
5. The Witcher 3's Northern Realms Physically Change Depending On Your ChoicesKeeping away from spoilers, sufficed to say Witcher 3's story is one fraught with meaty dialogue exchanges and an ever-fluctuating cast of characters. This can result in a number of optional permutations on narrative paths and the world around you, but more staggering is the fact the entire Northern Realm sections all change depending on your actions.

6. The Witcher 3 Almost Featured 'Ice-Skating Combat'
Unbelievably, this is true.
Creative director Damien Monnier noted during a PAX East panel that at one point the team had put together a prototype 'ice skating combat engine', whereby you'd pick up speed by using a controller's triggers to power Geralt's legs independently, before slicing off heads and leaving arcs of blood all over the ice.
7. Wild Hunt's Map Is Around 20% Bigger Than SkyrimNo longer is Bethesda's frosty masterpiece the king of the open-world RPG.
Not only is The Witcher 3's map 20% bigger than Skyrim in its entirety, but it's 35 times larger than the map from The Witcher 2: Assassin's of Kings, reportedly taking around 40 solid minutes to traverse by horseback.
8. You Can Find A Fallen Assassin In The Witcher 2
A neat little easter egg, if you take a look near the ballista right at the opening of Witcher 2's siege on the castle, you can come across this broken hay cart with a member of the Assassin's Creed order slumped inside.
9. There's Also A Polish TV Show And Witcher MovieThe Witcher as a franchise is far, FAR bigger over in Poland than in the West, resulting over the years in a TV show and movie, although both did not do very well with critics.Named The Hexer, they both star actor Michał Żebrowski as Geralt, but despite being praised for solid acting in spots, original author Andrzej Sapkowski actually publicly disowned them for being such a poor representation of his original work.

10. The Witcher 3 Is Made Up Of Over 1 Million Lines Of Code
As of last year when CD Projekt released a fun little stat-sheet covering many aspects of their production around Witcher 3, the game had surpassed one million lines of code, nestling on 1,135,617.
Although voice of Geralt, Doug Cockle, hadn't played or even heard of the previous Witcher games or Sapkowski's writings, he was told in early readings of the character to draw inspiration from Clint Eastwood's gravelly performance in the Dirty Harry movies.

12. In Witcher 3, Geralt's Beard Grows In Real Time
You may have caught onto this in the game's pre-release interviews or coverage, as such a random thing tends to get shared more than what really matters in today's climate. However, as the entry title states, the developer implemented the actual growth of Geralt's beard in real time (within the game world), meaning you actively have to seek out a barbers and get a shave - or let it grow out into such a mane fit for a demon-slayer.
